How Many People Live In Chicago

Why is Chicago suddenly attracting so much attention worldwide? How many people live in Chicago? These types of questions may come in somebody's mind. If we go by the statistics, agreed that it is the largest city in the state of Illinois and the 3rd most populated city in the USA with over 2.8 million residents. But more than all this analytical data, the predominant reason behind all the attention Chicago at the moment is garnering seems to spring from the vital fact that it was the residence of USA's  ruling president before his arrival in ‘White House' in Washington.

Of course, there are many other factors responsible for the escalating number of residents in the city of Chicago right from the time of its foundation in 1833. It was initially colonized by some Native American tribe. Slowly and steadily the flourishing economy attracted many locals from rural communities. The epoch making change was brought in 1920's, which is also termed as the Jazz age. Industrialization brought in far reaching changes in the major cities of USA, such as New York, Washington DC, Chicago, New York etc. New job prospects created by the booming industries triggered interest in these cities by countless American nationals as well as overseas immigrants. Today all these cities boast of considerable number of overseas residents along with the US nationals and the number is continually on the rise. One striking aspect common to any affluent city is that all of a sudden you can see it becoming overcrowded. If we look at any of the financially burgeoning cities in the world such as Tokyo, Singapore, or Mumbai, the common feature that binds them together is nonstop inflow of the bourgeois class thronging them to enhance their lifestyle.

As is already mentioned, Chicago is also famous as it is home to many influential politicians including the current President of the USA. Barack Obama. Whenever anyone scales up the highest rung of the ladder, he or she gets scrutinized by public eye, from all the angles. From the time he became US president, print as well as electronic media is trying to uncover all the minute details of his history, including, whether he was originally Christian or Muslim by birth. When Obama bought the house in Chicago, it had not achieved that worldwide attention. But from the time he took an oath as US president, the house has become a tourist spot and attracts innumerable folks all around the world.

In the field of academics, too Chicago is the foremost runner. Prestigious universities like University of Chicago, Northwestern University and the University of Illinois are treated as elite universities, and thousands of students from all across the globe try relentlessly to get admission in these esteemed universities. Chicago was also named as the best sports city in US by ‘The Sporting News' in the year 1993, 2006 and 2010. Tourists come here to enjoy the city's lakefront and the vibrant nightlife that the city offers. So finally to conclude it's to be noted that along with President Barack Obama's residence Chicago's population is continually on the rise due to other equally important factors mentioned above.
